If it is one’s job to be a street sweep, you should consider it a calling and then sweep the streets with the same passion with which Michelangelo painted, Beethoven composed or Shakespeare wrote. You have to keep the streets so clean that people and angels standstill crying: “HERE A MAN HAS SWEPT STREETS WHOSE WORK IS HIS HONOR!”

At the Abraham Kriel Children’s Home Nylstroom, we regard this as our calling and it is truly an honour for us to give our 170 children a second chance in life. Therefore, we want to thank each donor and honour the difference they make in our children’s lives; without them, our work will not be possible

National Arbor Day is celebrated each year during the first week of September. The new season is here. Spring brings hope for a bright future and that’s what our children have to experience this year. On 1 September 2020 our children, with spades and by digging holes, gave new life to 20 pecan nut trees that will later expand to about 200 trees with the help of Mr. Ivan Otto and Limpopo Pecan Growers.

Unfortunately, may events were cancelled because of Covid-19, but the Spar Woman’s race decided to go on in a virtual format. JacarandaFM’s Good Morning Angels and Spar Women’s Challenge were angels for one of our children, Sanet Basson. She is also the reason for the theme of this year’s race aimed at the fight against gender-based violence. On 26 September, representatives decided to visit the children’s home with Dianne Broodryk and Retha Ingelbleeck to bring food parcels and make the event bigger. We were about 200 participants in total who walked together. The theme was “Spread the Sunshine” and we did spread sunshine by standing together as a children’s home against gender-based violence.

On 9 September 2020 Dr. Pinheiro examined our children’s teeth. After that, the dentist decided what procedures were further needed.  Work on various children’s teeth were then done under anesthesia at Cure Day Hospital Midstream.  The children were surprised by a “Magician” and spoiled with gift packs filled with all kinds of interesting things, and also a food parcel.  This is an annual donation, but we thought it would no longer take place due to Covid-19. However, our helpful angels were not fazed by a virus.  We are incredibly grateful for this gesture!

Our heartiest thanks go to the following specialists and sponsors:

Dr. F. Pinheiro (dentist) and Dr. A. Roux (anesthetist)
